At its regular monthly meeting on February 8, the Commission took the following actions:

  • Discussed but tabled pending further consideration by, and consultation with, ANC 1C regarding a proposed map amendment to permit redevelopment and needed EMS/police/fire service upgrades at 1617 U/1620 V Street NW (three Commissioners joined ANC 1C colleagues at a site walkabout with DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson on Saturday, February 11)
  • Heard from ANC 2C regarding the status of unhoused residents at McPherson Square pending the National Park Service’s (NPS) February 15 closing to encampments, and discussed multiple options for further engagement (four ANC 2B commissioners joined fellow commissioners from across the city to request a halt to the planned NPS eviction)
  • Adopted a resolution in support of the Capital Pride Alliance’s public space application for Capital Pride 2023, including support for waiver of fees and additional facilitative steps (among immediate additional requirements are collection of signatures from 17th Street merchants and residents) – for more information visit the organization’s website
