Board of Elections Announces Process for Filling the ANC’s Vacancy for District 2B04

The DC Board of Elections has published the process for filling the vacancy for district 2B04 in the DC Register. Any resident of district 2B04, a map of which can be found here, who has an interest in running for the vacant seat can pick up petitions to run for the seat by emailing:Ā candidate@dcboe.org or by visiting the Board of Elections at 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750. Residents must collect the signatures of at least 25 voters registered in district 2B04 in order to run for the seat. The beginning of the petition pick-up period is Monday, January 8th and the completed petitions are due back to the Board of Elections by 4:45 pm on Monday, January 29th.

Following the submission period for the petitions, there will be a challenge period from Thursday, February 1st to Wednesday, February 7th where residents will have the ability to challenge individual signatures on a candidate’s petitions. If only one candidate completes the challenge period, that candidate will become the new commissioner for district 2B04. If more than one candidate completes the challenge period, a special election will be held at an upcoming ANC meeting to elect the new commissioner.

Results of the Special Election for 2B07

On Thursday, January 4th the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC) held a special election for the current vacancy for single member district (SMD) 2B07. Two candidates appeared on the ballot: Josiah Blackwell-Lipkind and Libby Franklin. After tallying the votes, Josiah Blackwell-Lipkind received 16 votes and Libby Franklin received 33 votes. Libby Franklin has thus been named the Commissioner-Elect for 2B07. She will begin serving on the ANC after being sworn in by a Councilmember.

The ANC thanks all of the candidates and voters who participated in this special election.

REMINDER: Information Regarding the Special Election for ANC 2B07

This is a reminder that there will be a special election for the current vacancy for single member district 2B07 on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. The special election will take place in the vestibule of St. Thomas’ Parish at 1517 18th Street NW. Polls will be open from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

In order to open and close the special election, the ANC will hold a special meeting beginning at 2:50 pm and ending no later than 8:00 pm. The meeting will be held via Zoom at:Ā . The sole purpose for the special meeting is the legal requirement for a quorum of commissioners to open and close the special election. No other action or public comment will take place during the special meeting and all ballots must be cast in person at St. Thomas’ Parish.

In order to participate in the special election, you must be a registered voter in single member district 2B07, the boundaries of which can be foundĀ here. Same day voter registration will not be available at the polls. The election will be administered by theĀ Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC). At the end of the voting period OANC will tabulate the results of the election and the winner will be announced. The ANC will then adopt a resolution stating the name of the winner.

There will be two candidates appearing on the ballot. The order they will be appearing on the ballot, which is sorted alphabetically by last name, is as follows:

  • Josiah Blackwell-Lipkind
  • Libby Franklin
