Results of the Special Election for 2B04

On Friday, June 24th the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC) held a special election for the current vacancy for single member district (SMD) 2B04. Two candidates appeared on the ballot: Christopher Davis and Lawrence Sprowls. After tallying the votes, Christopher Davis received 28 votes and Lawrence Sprowls received 5 votes. Christopher Davis has thus been named the Commissioner-Elect for 2B04. He will begin serving on the ANC after being sworn in by a Councilmember.

Information Regarding the Special Election for ANC 2B04

ANC 2B is announcing that there will be a special election for the current vacancy for single member district 2B04 on Friday, June 24th. The special election will take place at the Dupont Circle Resource Center at 9 Dupont Circle NW. Polls will be open from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

In order to open and close the special election, the ANC will hold a special meeting beginning at 2:50 pm and ending at 7:10 pm. The meeting will be held via Zoom at: . The sole purpose for the special meeting is the legal requirement for a quorum of commissioners to open and close the special election. No other action or public comment will take place during the special meeting and all ballots must be cast in person at the Dupont Circle Resource Center.

In order to participate in the special election, you must be a registered voter in single member district 2B04, the boundaries of which can be found here. Same day voter registration will not be available at the polls. The election will be administered by the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC).

There will be two candidates appearing on the ballot. The order they will be appearing on the ballot, which is sorted alphabetically by last name, is as follows:

  • Lawrence Sprowls

Board of Elections Announces Process for Filling the ANC’s Vacancy for District 2B04

Following the resignation of former Commissioner Mo Pasternak, the DC Board of Elections has published the process for filling the vacancy for district 2B04 in the DC Register. Any resident of district 2B04, a map of which can be found here, who has an interest in running for the vacant seat can pick up petitions to run for the seat by emailing:Ā candidate@dcboe.org or by visiting the Board of Elections at 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750. Residents must collect the signatures of at least 25 voters registered in district 2B04 in order to run for the seat. The beginning of the petition pick-up period is Monday, April 11th and the completed petitions are due back to the Board of Elections by Monday, May 2nd.

Following the submission period for the petitions, there will be a challenge period from Thursday, May 5th to Wednesday, May 11th where residents will have the ability to challenge individual signatures on a candidate’s petitions. If only one candidate completes the challenge period, that candidate will become the new commissioner for district 2B04. If more than one candidate completes the challenge period, a special election will be held at an upcoming ANC meeting to elect the new commissioner.

Following the resignation of former Commissioner Michael Scott McKernan, the DC Board of Elections has published the process for filling the vacancy for district 2B07 in the DC Register. Any resident of district 2B07, a map of which can be found here, who has an interest in running for the vacant seat can pick up petitions to run for the seat by emailing: candidate@dcboe.org or by visiting the Board of Elections at 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750. Residents must collect the signatures of at least 25 voters registered in district 2B07 in order to run for the seat. The beginning of the petition pick-up period was on Monday, March 28th and the completed petitions are due back to the Board of Elections by Monday, April 18th.

Following the submission period for the petitions, there will be a challenge period from Thursday, April 21st to Wednesday, April 27th where residents will have the ability to challenge individual signatures on a candidate’s petitions. ANC 2B Announces Election of Beverly Schwartz for 2B08

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2B is pleased to announce that Beverly Schwartz has been elected as the next commissioner for single member district 2B08. Beverly is filling the vacancy created by the resignation of former Commissioner Nicole McEntee. After the end of the public review period for the signatures Beverly submitted, the DC Board of Elections announced last week that Beverly will officially be a commissioner for ANC 2B. She was sworn-in by Councilmember Jack Evans earlier today.

Beverly is an ā€œentrepreneurialā€ behavioral scientist and has made her career in the field of social change marketing. With a background in advertising and communications, she has an extensive career in marketing for the private, non-profit, and public sectors, and has worked on some of the world’s most challenging domestic and international issues to include HIV/AIDS; drug abuse; smoking prevention along with gender equity in education and environmental reform in developing countries. In partnership with the MasterCard Foundation, she recently led a four-year program seeking innovative solutions to youth unemployment in Africa.

Beverly is the author of ā€œRippling: How Social Entrepreneurs Spread Innovation Throughout the World,ā€ which is now in five languages and has been honored by two book awards. All her work supports a vision of an ā€œEveryone a Changemaker World,ā€ advancing the skills of teamwork, leadership, empathy, and changemaking. She is an avid scuba diver and her most consistent traveling ā€œcompanionā€ is her diving gear.

Beverly is a past Board of Trustee member for the National Hospice Association and is currently a Board Member of the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation and APOPO/HeroRats, an African based organization that uses African pouched rats to sniff out land mines. She is a member of the Dupont Circle Citizens Association and has been a Dupont Circle resident for the past 16 years.
