Results of the Special Election for 2B04

On Friday, June 24th the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC) held a special election for the current vacancy for single member district (SMD) 2B04. Two candidates appeared on the ballot: Christopher Davis and Lawrence Sprowls. After tallying the votes, Christopher Davis received 28 votes and Lawrence Sprowls received 5 votes. Christopher Davis has thus been named the Commissioner-Elect for 2B04. He will begin serving on the ANC after being sworn in by a Councilmember.

Information Regarding the Special Election for ANC 2B04

ANC 2B is announcing that there will be a special election for the current vacancy for single member district 2B04 on Friday, June 24th. The special election will take place at the Dupont Circle Resource Center at 9 Dupont Circle NW. Polls will be open from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

In order to open and close the special election, the ANC will hold a special meeting beginning at 2:50 pm and ending at 7:10 pm. The meeting will be held via Zoom at: . The sole purpose for the special meeting is the legal requirement for a quorum of commissioners to open and close the special election. No other action or public comment will take place during the special meeting and all ballots must be cast in person at the Dupont Circle Resource Center.

In order to participate in the special election, you must be a registered voter in single member district 2B04, the boundaries of which can be found here. Same day voter registration will not be available at the polls. The election will be administered by the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (OANC).

There will be two candidates appearing on the ballot. The order they will be appearing on the ballot, which is sorted alphabetically by last name, is as follows:

  • Christopher Davis
  • Lawrence Sprowls

Board of Elections Announces Process for Filling the ANC’s Vacancy for District 2B04

Following the resignation of former Commissioner Mo Pasternak, the DC Board of Elections has published the process for filling the vacancy for district 2B04 in the DC Register. Any resident of district 2B04, a map of which can be found here, who has an interest in running for the vacant seat can pick up petitions to run for the seat by emailing: candidate@dcboe.org or by visiting the Board of Elections at 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750. Residents must collect the signatures of at least 25 voters registered in district 2B04 in order to run for the seat. The beginning of the petition pick-up period is Monday, April 11th and the completed petitions are due back to the Board of Elections by Monday, May 2nd.

Following the submission period for the petitions, there will be a challenge period from Thursday, May 5th to Wednesday, May 11th where residents will have the ability to challenge individual signatures on a candidate’s petitions. If only one candidate completes the challenge period, that candidate will become the new commissioner for district 2B04. If more than one candidate completes the challenge period, a special election will be held at an upcoming ANC meeting to elect the new commissioner.

Board of Elections Announces Process for Filling the ANC’s Vacancy for District 2B07

Following the resignation of former Commissioner Michael Scott McKernan, the DC Board of Elections has published the process for filling the vacancy for district 2B07 in the DC Register. Any resident of district 2B07, a map of which can be found here, who has an interest in running for the vacant seat can pick up petitions to run for the seat by emailing: candidate@dcboe.org or by visiting the Board of Elections at 1015 Half Street SE, Suite 750. Residents must collect the signatures of at least 25 voters registered in district 2B07 in order to run for the seat. The beginning of the petition pick-up period was on Monday, March 28th and the completed petitions are due back to the Board of Elections by Monday, April 18th.

Following the submission period for the petitions, there will be a challenge period from Thursday, April 21st to Wednesday, April 27th where residents will have the ability to challenge individual signatures on a candidate’s petitions. If only one candidate completes the challenge period, that candidate will become the new commissioner for district 2B07. DC Council’s Subcommittee on Redistricting Releases Proposed Ward Maps

On Monday, November 1st the DC Council’s Subcommittee on Redistricting, Chaired by Councilmember Elissa Silverman, released three “discussion” maps drawing possible new ward boundaries as part of the DC Council’s ongoing redistricting process resulting from the 2020 U.S. Census. The three “discussion” maps include notable changes for the northern part of ANC 2B:

  • Map One moves all of ANC 2B north of S Street between 18th Street and 14th Street NW to Ward 1.  
  • Map Two moves all of ANC 2B north of S Street between 16th Street and 14th Street NW to Ward 1.  
  • Map Three moves all of ANC 2B north of S Street between 15th Street to 14th Street NW to Ward 1.

The Subcommittee on Redistricting’s final citywide hearing on the proposed ward maps will take place this Friday, November 5th at 12:00 pm via Zoom and Facebook Live. More information regarding the hearing, including a link to sign up to testify, can be found here. Please note that the deadline to sign up to testify is this Wednesday, November 3rd at 5:00 pm. Anyone who has feedback regarding the proposed ward boundaries, especially as they relate to the above-stated changes in ANC 2B, is encouraged to testify.

Please note that the Subcommittee on Redistricting is currently focused on setting the ward boundaries as part of the redistricting process. Discussions regarding ANC and single member district (SMD) boundaries within each ward are expected to begin in early 2022.
