NEWS: Proposed resolution for alley deck project at 1412 Hopkins St NW

The following is the ANC 2B Zoning, Preservation, and Development Committee’s proposed resolution for the rear deck at 1412 Hopkins St NW:

Proposed resolution for 1412 Hopkins

Whereas the Zoning Preservation and Development Committee was presented with a request for a zoning variance for the residence of 1412 Hopkins Street NW for a rear patio elevated to the first floor from the ground floor;

Whereas the applicant committed that the north structural steel column and bollard be located at the midpoint of the north side of the patio, instead of at the corner of the patio;

Therefore be it resolved that ANC 2B supports the request for zoning variance, provided that the column and bollard are relocated as described above, based on the following:

  1. the patio will improve the quality of air and light by raising the exterior space above the neighboring concrete wall that currently blocks light and air;
  2. the project improves the equity of the property because the neighboring patio is similarly elevated; and
  3. the project does not incur additional hardship to the neighbors but improves the aesthetic of the alley.

NEWS: Listening Session on Proposed 14th & U Liquor Moratorium

Advisory Neighborhood Commissions from U Street, Logan and Dupont Holding Listening Session on Proposed 14th & U Liquor Moratorium

Wednesday March 20, 2013
7:00 – 9:00pm
Thurgood Marshall Center
1816 12th St NW

Members from the U Street (1B), Logan Circle (2F) and Dupont Circle (2B) ANCs will be holding a joint listening session to hear directly from the residents and the business community about a proposed Liquor Moratorium for 14th and U Streets. The meeting will be an opportunity for the neighborhood to speak directly to their elected officials who will be voting over the next few months on whether to support a moratorium in the area. Special invited guests include representatives from the Alcoholic Beverage Regulatory Agency, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Shaw Dupont Citizens Alliance, who proposed the moratorium.

Though this is the only joint meeting being held on the proposal, ANCs may hold additional smaller meetings – decisions or actions will not be taken at this meeting. Organizers intend to give each participant 1-2 minutes to speak and request that members of the community direct their comments to the ANC Commissioners present.

Please share this announcement with your friends and neighbors and be sure to attend this listening session to have your voice heard as the community debates a moratorium at 14th and U.

NEWS: Abigail Nichols wins special election for Single Member District 2B05 seat

The ANC hosted a special election last night for the vacant 2B05 seat between candidates Dito Sevilla and Abigail Nichols.  The certified winner was Abigail Nichols.   The ANC has forwarded the attached 2B05 Special Election Certification to the Board of Elections and Ethics for formal approval.  Once the BoEE approves, Commissioner-elect Nichols will be sworn in by Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans, and she will join the ANC for our April public meeting.

Many thanks to all from 2B05 who came out to vote, and also to Gottlieb Simon and his staff from the Office of ANCs for managing the special election.  Congratulations, as well, to both candidates for a respectful race.
