Public Meeting #2 for DDOT’s Connecticut Avenue Streetscape and Deck-Over Project

Meeting Info:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host the second public meeting to show the public the preferred alternatives design of the Connecticut Avenue Streetscape and Deck-Over project on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.  Meetings will be held with the communities, businesses, agency representatives and all project stakeholders to generate public comment and feedback that will be incorporated into the project design to develop a plan that best meets the needs of the community. At Public Meeting #1 in April 2018, DDOT presented several concepts for the corridor and plaza. The comments DDOT received from the public were incorporated into a preferred alternative.

Project Background:

This project aims to enhance the vitality, economic opportunities, and quality of life for local business and residential communities in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Improvements to the streetscape and pedestrian infrastructure will create a new public space and improve multi-modal access along Connecticut Avenue from Dupont Circle to California Street NW.  A new deck-over plaza will be constructed over Connecticut Avenue between Dupont Circle and Q Street NW to provide a public space for everyday activities, as a well as a space for special events such as a farmer’s market, movies, music, plays, and art and cultural events. The Connecticut Avenue underpass will remain in use for vehicle travel.

Study Area:

The study area covers Connecticut Avenue from Dupont Circle to California Street NW.

The meeting will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 7:00 pm. Please note that the meeting will take place at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), 1717 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Room 500. This is the SAIS building that is located on the north side of the 1700 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

Please also note that, due School of Advanced International Studies policies, all meeting attendees will be required to show photo ID in order to enter the school building.

June 5th ZPD Committee Meeting Agenda

ANC 2B will hold our monthly Zoning, Preservation, and Development (ZPD) Committee meeting on Wednesday, June 5th at 7:00 pm at the Dupont Circle Resource Center, 9 Dupont Circle NW.

The committee will review the following historic preservation and zoning applications:

  • 1637-1641 R Street NW – Application by Raycon Inc. for special exception from the minimum open court requirements and from the lot occupancy requirements to construct a rear addition to the second through fourth stories, and a rooftop penthouse to an existing four-story mixed use commercial building at 1637-1641 R Street NW (BZA #20042) (2B04)
  • 1738 Church Street NW – Concept / detached garage, roof deck, and hyphen connection (HPRB #19-384) (2B07)
  • 1521 Corcoran Street NW – Concept / new partial third floor, new addition, new windows (HPRB #19-395) (2B04)
  • 1620 Riggs Place NW – Concept / new garage with rooftop patio (HPRB #19-383) (2B04)

May 22nd TPI Committee Meeting Agenda

ANC 2B will hold its next Transportation and Public Infrastructure (TPI) Committee meeting on Wednesday, May 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Dupont Circle Resource Center, 9 Dupont Circle NW.

The agenda includes:

  • Welcome and review of meeting norms
  • Member introductions
  • Discussion regarding proposed DC Council Vision Zero legislation
  • Discussion regarding proposed DC Council legislation changes to residential parking permits fee structure
  • Discussion regarding the proposal to transfer photo enforcement from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

The purpose of the Transportation and Public Infrastructure (TPI) Committee is to promote a safe and effective transportation system for the residents and visitors of Dupont Circle and improve the use of public space in our neighborhood. The role of the TPI Committee serves as a forum for discussing matters related to the following and making recommendations to the ANC:

  • Parking in the neighborhood, including valet applications, loading zones, the enhanced residential parking program and visitor parking
  • Pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and safety
  • Beautification, repair, and streetscapes
  • Public transit
  • Public parks
  • Matters before the DC Council related to transportation and public space
