NEWS: Dupont ANC Seeks New Executive Director

The Dupont Circle Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC 2B) is seeking a new Executive Director (ED).  The ED is a part-time, salaried staff position with the ANC.  The ED serves as our chief administrator, assisting with our public meetings, agendas, minutes, letters, and outreach.

We anticipate the position will require 20-25 hours of work per month, with a monthly gross salary of approximately $500. We would like to fill the position as soon as possible with a start date on or around July 15, 2013.

NEWS: ANC 2B seeking candidates for 2 intern positions

The Dupont Circle ANC is seeking candidates to fill its two available paid internship opportunities:

The Desi Deschaine Memorial Community Involvement Internship

Our Community Involvement Internship position is named in honor of Desi Deschaine, former communications and community outreach staff member for Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans’ office.  The Deschaine Community Involvement Intern helps the Commission develop strategies for effective communication with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders; develop and implement press and social media outreach; and enrich the neighborhood by working with other community organizations, non-profits, businesses, residents, and other stakeholders to support neighborhood events and activities.  The Deschaine Community Involvement Intern receives a stipend each semester.  The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per week, or 20-25 hours per month.

The Jeff Coudriet Memorial Public Policy Internship

Our Public Policy Internship is named in honor of Jeff Coudriet, former legislative staff member for Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans’ office.  The Coudriet Public Policy Intern helps the Commission improve the overall quality of its decisions and recommendations by researching and reporting on relevant public policy matters — such as best practices in liquor licensing, zoning matters, and historic preservation, or legislation and public policy that affects the neighborhood.  The Coudriet Public Policy Intern receives a stipend each semester.  The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per week, or 20-25 hours per month.

NEWS: ANC seeking new web/IT consultant

The ANC’s long-time Executive Director Freddie Blicher, who served in that capacity from 2004 until 2011, is now stepping down from the position of Web/IT consultant.  Therefore, the ANC is looking for someone to assist us with web design and IT trouble-shooting, to begin in February 2013.  This is a contract position that will be paid hourly, with an expectation of about 10 hours per month.  The consultant should be very familiar with WordPress web design.  Graphic design and photo/video editing knowledge is also preferred.

Position Description for Web/IT Consultant

The Web/IT Consultant will:

1. Serve as the Commission’s webmaster, including:

  • designing the website;
  • managing the background infrastructure of the website, such as servers and domains;
  • maintaining and updating the functionality of the website; and
  • regularly updating the content of the website, as needed;

2. Manage the Commission’s internal worksite (currently Backpack);

3. Manage the Commission’s e-mail systems and server; and

4. Assist with other IT work, as needed.

NEWS: ANC Publishes Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2012

At its January 2013 meeting, the ANC approved the FY 2012 Annual Report submitted by Chairman Will Stephens.  The annual report provides a snapshot of the activities of the ANC from October 2011 through September 2012 — including votes taken, issues discussed, achievements, personnel, staff, and finances.

Particularly interesting are the statistics showing how the ANC voted on regulatory applications (alcohol, public space, zoning, historic preservation) over the course of the year.

DC law requires ANCs to submit annual reports to the Council each year.  At minimum, these required reports must include a breakdown of the ANCs finances and key activities and votes.  The Dupont Circle ANC has in recent years generated annual reports that are meant to serve a broader audience — including new and old residents, businesses, other ANCs, and other community stakeholders.  It is intended to be attractive and easy to read, in addition to being informative.
